Evidence
As an early career teacher it is important to recognise that each lesson is learning experience and a chance to refine your teaching. Throughout my teaching experience thus far, I have had to chance to engage with many qualified and experienced teaching professionals which have insight and constructive feedback that has allowed me to improve my teaching practices.
My Illustrations of engaging in professional learning include participating in Thinking Maths professional development, EduTECH conference, online courses , observation of ASMS, evaluation of lessons and participating in meetings,

Thinking Maths Professional Development
In the second semester of 2019 the school selected me to participate in the Government run Thinking Maths professional development. This was a 6 day training which involved going through problem solving based maths strategies and pedagogies gave me many resources and strategies that I have been able to implement in my maths classroom. As the was part of my own Professional Development Plan I thoroughly enjoyed the training and shared many of the ideas and resources with other staff members in my faculty. EduTECH Conference
In June of 2019 I was chosen along with 3 other staff members to attend EduTECH conference in Sydney. EduTECH brings together ALL of education, including pre-school, school, tertiary and higher Ed, workplace learning and continued adult education for the BIGGEST expo and congress in Asia Pacific. People usually attend EduTECH’s International Congress to learn and be inspired by world-leading education experts. The key speaker for 2019 was Sir Ken Robinson. Supported and sponsored by all the major players including the Department of Education, and major technology companies including Microsoft and Google for Education, plus new smaller EdTech start-up business in our innovation precinct, EduTECH offers over professional development for attendees. We attended the conference with the interest in gaining insight into how IT could benefit our schools writing improvement focus and formulating an idea of where we go with technology for our new development at the school. I came away from the conference with many ideas about technology and how it could improve my students learning and compliment my own teaching. Observations at ASMS
As part of my Secondary Maths Specialisation Topic - EDUC4730, I was required to do weekly observations at the Australian Secondary Maths School (ASMS). This school provides opportunities for young people interested in Science and Mathematics to develop a lifelong passion for learning. The observations allowed me engage with teachers and consider multiple strategies and approaches that support students learning that could influence my teaching. These include the ideas of team teaching, school design/environment, creating self directed learners, a Problem Based Learning (PBL) inquiry approach, behaviour management and the use of ICT. Evaluation of lessons
Whilst on placement I made the effort to analyse, reflect and evaluate my teaching performance after each lesson. This was done in a written self-reflection form after the class or sit down conversation with mentor. This allowed me to understand what went well within the lesson or what improvements could be made. Often these were the things I focused on in the next lesson. This provided some guidance to help become a more effective teacher. I believe this is something I would like to continue and do more as a early career teacher, especially in the written form.
Below is an example an of self evaluation for a year 9 Hockey lesson from my placement and a evaluation I was given from my university liaison about a year 8 HPE lesson.
