My name is Mikaela Sawyer. I am mid year graduate of Flinders University completing a Bachelor of Education (Middle and Secondary)/Bachelor of Arts. This has included a double major in Mathematics and Physical Education.
I have grown up surrounded by very capable and inspiring teachers who have molded me into the person I am today. From a young age I had an interest in being a teacher, but during late high school found that I was leaning towards Engineering. It was a spur of the moment decision to switch back to teaching, but one that I have not regretted. After graduating in mid 2018, I moved to Port Lincoln to teach at Port Lincoln High School. After 6 months I earned permanency as the senior maths teacher. This involved teaching Stage 2 Math Methods and Stage 1 Specialist Maths. This has enabled me to spread my passion and enthusiasm for Mathematics, as well as establish strong relationships with many young people. Whilst completing my degree I was lucky enough to many opportunities to gain an insight and a love work working with children. These opportunities have included working as an SSO with students with at Adelaide East Special School, coordinating basketball programs for Cabra Dominican College, studying and teaching in Indonesia and Bandung and tutoring students in Mathematics and English. Teaching is something that I am very passionate about and I strongly believe that every child has a right to an education and should be given the opportunity to reach their full potential. |
